Valletta at night: where to go out, and how to get to the clubs
Staying in Valletta and looking for a nightclub? The clubs on this site aren't in the capital: they're mostly in Paceville, the party district of St Julian's, a night bus ride away. Valletta is the place for dinner and a first drink. Here's how to combine the two.
Valletta in the evening: dinner, city walls and a first drink
Valletta is Malta's capital, and the city is a World Heritage Site. In the evening, people mostly come for dinner, a drink and a stroll along the floodlit city walls, by the water.
To dance until 4am, you'll need to change neighbourhood: the clubs are in St Julian's.
Strait Street, the old sailors' street
Right in the centre, Strait Street, part of which was nicknamed “The Gut”, lived off visiting navies from at least 1800: its bars and music halls welcomed sailors and servicemen. After independence, the departure of British and American servicemen emptied it, and the street closed down from the 1970s onwards.
Today, a few of the old bars have kept their atmosphere, and restaurant tables line up outside the venues: a stop for a drink before heading to the clubs.
The nightclubs are in Paceville
Toy Room, Sky Club and Infinity by Hugo's are in Paceville, and TwentyTwo is close by in Portomaso, on the top floor of the Portomaso Business Tower. This autumn, the parties on sale take place on Saturdays at Toy Room, from 11pm, from €15.
For a specific party, the events listings give every date, club by club, with the link to the tickets.
From Valletta to Paceville at night
The N13 night bus leaves Valletta from stop A13 every night from 11:10pm to 2:10am, and serves Sliema and then St Julian's (San Ġiljan on the timetables); a journey costs €3, in cash, by contactless card or by phone.
For the way back, the timetable in the other direction is on the Malta Public Transport website: check it before you go out. Otherwise, Bolt, Uber and eCabs all operate in Malta, and Uber advertises a 24/7 service in Valletta.
In summer, parties in the capital
Sometimes the party comes to Valletta: in summer 2026, the ADRIATIQUE party was held at The Ditch, in Valletta's moat, on Sunday 20 September.
Dates like that are rare. For next summer, leave your travel dates on the summer page: you'll get the parties that fall during your trip as soon as they go on sale.
Stay in Valletta or St Julian's?
If your trip revolves around the clubs, staying in St Julian's saves you the journey home. Valletta works if you want to see the capital and go out one or two nights: you get there on the N13, and you plan the way back before you leave.
