Where to stay in Malta for nightlife
In Malta, where you stay decides how your nights end: a walk home, a night bus or a ride across the island. St Julian's is the obvious base for walking to the clubs, but Sliema, Valletta and St Paul's Bay have their own advantages. Here, area by area, are the clubs within walking distance and how to get home.
The short answer
To go out almost every night, stay in St Julian's, in or near Paceville: Toy Room, Sky Club, Infinity by Hugo's and TwentyTwo are all within walking distance of each other. For somewhere away from the crowds leaving the clubs, Sliema and Valletta are on the N13 night bus route. If your trip revolves around Café del Mar, St Paul's Bay is the right side of the island. Gianpula Village, on the outskirts of Rabat, and Aria Complex, in L-Iklin, are away from St Julian's: wherever you stay, plan the journey.
St Julian's: Paceville and Portomaso
This is where four of the clubs on this site are: Toy Room on St George's Road, Sky Club and Infinity by Hugo's, on the H Hotel rooftop, in Paceville, and TwentyTwo close by, on the top floor of the Portomaso Business Tower. Staying in the area means walking home, with no waiting for a bus or a car.
The downside: Paceville is the centre of the island's nightlife, and French government travel advice recommends particular vigilance there. If you're a light sleeper, look in St Julian's but away from the club streets.
Sliema
Sliema is the town next to St Julian's, on the N13 route, which serves stops including Tas-Sliema and Ferries. It's the choice for those who want to sleep outside the club district and get there by bus or ride-hailing app.
Sliema is also home to Sliema Ferries, where the summer 2026 boat parties set off, from 7pm to 11:30pm.
Valletta
The capital is where the N13 starts: from stop A13, buses leave for St Julian's from 11:10pm to 2:10am, for €3.00 a journey. The clubs on this site are elsewhere, mainly in St Julian's: staying in Valletta means taking the bus or a car there every night and checking the time of your way back.
St Paul's Bay: Qawra and Buġibba
Café del Mar Malta is in Qawra, part of St Paul's Bay, on Triq it-Trunciera, looking out to St Paul's Islands, Gozo and Comino, according to its website. It opens every day from 10am to midnight, and in summer 2026 its Thursday Pool Party started at 8pm.
At night, the N212 leaves Buġibba every day from 11:50pm to 1:30am, every 20 minutes. For parties in Paceville, plan on a ride-hailing app.
Gianpula Village and Aria Complex: plan the journey
Gianpula Village is on the outskirts of Rabat, in the countryside, and Aria Complex is in L-Iklin, near San Ġwann. Neither is a base for a party trip: wherever you stay, book your ride there, check there'll be cars for the way back, and see whether the party's page announces transport.
Booking wisely
Check the parties on your dates in the events listings first, then choose the area: if everything is at Toy Room, St Julian's is the obvious choice; if you're heading to Café del Mar, St Paul's Bay makes sense.
For rentals, France Diplomatie reports regular scams involving online bookings and prepayments, such as properties that don't exist. The ministry recommends not paying the full rent until you've checked that the property exists and you have the keys, and being wary of listings on social media. It also reports break-ins at hotels and rentals: insurance that covers theft is recommended.
For the summer, you can send us your travel dates on the summer page: you'll get the parties that fall during your stay.
